My newest book is Rails Around Northern Illinois, due out October 1, 2026. It is the second of two books covering the northern half of Illinois, and the third installment in our tour of Illinois. This time we go from the Rock Island\/I-80 corridor north to the Wisconsin border, and from the Mississippi River to Lake Michigan. I detail a high-level history of each major railroad back from the 1800s to their mergers leading to the present day, then divide the region into seven chapters, plus the customary section on depots & towers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
