The book has been out almost 2 weeks now, and the initial batch of orders, as well as contributor copies have been shipped and received. Here are a few of the initial feedback comments:
“As with many books’ image selection and reproduction, this could have easily become a three volume set. Michael C Kelly and David Crisler must have realized the daunting task ahead of them to cover Indiana throughly. So many roads, routes, and locations they could have easily titled it “Indiana: the Crossroads of Railroads” In my opinion, they really brought this one home.
Photo credits read like a virtual Who’s Who of midwestern railfan photographers: David Oroszi, Paul Fries, John Bjorklund, Richard Koenig and others.
Without giving spoilers, and admittedly, I have not gone through each page of photos, they found a few locations and subjects I would never have expected to see a photo, much less a high enough quality image worthy of both reproduction and inclusion in the book. I was very impressed by the almost 80 pages I sampled.
Old, rare, obscure. yep, it’s in here. Mainlines and branch lines too. Of the almost 25 books in my library that either include or feature Indiana, this book is in my top three, behind Railroads of Indiana from 1997, and Ghost Railroads of Indiana from 1970. That makes it the number one pictorial book for Indiana in my library.
A home run. Your favorite musical artist’s retrospective album. This book is this railfan equivalent. Add it to your library…or forever be jealous of someone who does!” – Chris Thompson, Terre Haute, IN
“If you have not done so, buy this book! I received mine yesterday and it is a fantastic eye candy look at Indiana’s past railroads. Lots of photos from Lafayette and Logansport, as well as excellent coverage in the rest of the state.” – John Troxler, Logansport, IN
“Just got the book. It’s absolutely beautiful. It brings back so many memories of growing up in Southern Indiana” – Andrew Halter
“Great book! Mine came in the mail today so I skimmed it and looked more in-depth at some of my favorite spots around the state. I was happy to see entirely new pictures from my hometown of Tipton that I’d never seen before. Thank you and everyone involved for this comprehensive look at the railroads around the state.” – Owen Fishback, Noblesville, IN
“Got mine and better than I expected. Page after page of great color photos and text.” – Rob Kunkle
“Wow! What a great book. It arrived today. I am locked down in Florida right now and will be spending several hours going through the book.” – Joe DeMike
