My newest book is Rails Around Northern Illinois, due out October 1, 2026. It is the second of two books covering the northern half of Illinois, this time from the Rock Island/I-80 corridor north to the Wisconsin border, and from the Mississippi River to Lake Michigan. I detail a high-level history of each major railroad back from the 1800s to their mergers leading to the present day, then divide the region into seven chapters, plus the customary section on depots & towers.

This is my biggest book yet at 360-pages, with over 1000 all-color photographs from the following railroads: ATSF, B&O, C&EI, C&NW, CB&Q/BN, CC&P, CGW, EJ&E, Erie Lackawanna, GM&O, Illinois Central/ICG, Milwaukee Road, Monon, NYC, N&W, North Shore Line, PRR, PC/Conrail, Rock Island, Soo Line, South Shore Line, Wabash, and Amtrak.
