Cool thoughts on a hot Sunday evening

Some snow to distract from the mind-numbing heat, an excerpt from my upcoming book, Rails Around Northern Illinois: Taken from 18th St in an iconic Chicago skyline shot that cannot be repeated, northbound ICG train #P50 from New Orleans loops southwest for the new IMX intermodal yard on morning of January 31, 1987 behind two SD20s and a GP38-2. The yard was past 21st St between Ashland and Western Ave-nues, but was closed in 2004. The empty field was once Santa Fe’s passenger locomotive servicing facility, now Ping Tom Park. Rails Around Northern Illinois will be released in early October, but you can order your copy now at the pre-release price: https://michaelckelly.net/?page_id=8774
