At Polo, the Milwaukee Road entered into a joint track arrangement with the Rock Island’s line from Minneapolis. This joint track went as far south as Airline Jct. in Kansas City, and is still in place between eventual Milwaukee Road successor Canadian Pacific and Rock Island successor Union Pacific. Back in February 1985, Milwaukee Rd SD40-2 # 167, complete with the Hiawatha logo, leads Kansas City-bound train 222 south onto joint tracks at Polo.
